Spirituality and Giving Back

Spirituality

Spirituality is a big part of who I am today. As I mentioned on our welcome page, my life was empty although it appeared I had it all. That is until I took a trip to the Holy Land with my Bishop and First Lady. The trip was timely and life changing!   I realized that the life I lived is not what Jesus paid the price for.

Now don’t get me wrong, I grew up in the church. I was baptized with my husband in 2003 and again in the Jordan River in Israel. I was no stranger to Christ. I knew that when things went wrong, He was the person to call on. However, I did not have an intimate relationship with Him. I would seek His hands and not His face. As you know, God is intimate. He is a master lover. Nothing is conceived with God without intimacy.

Believe for big and God will give you the supernatural.

When I returned from my trip, all of that changed. I was on fire! I went to Bible study and church every week and, when I wasn’t in town, I would catch the sermon on the Internet via streamingfaith.com. I listened very closely to the message the man of God was delivering.   It was always relevant to me at the time. I studied the Word everyday. It was suggested to me to read one of the modern translations (New International Version) for an easier read. My prayer life was enriched and I intentionally made a decision to try to surrender to God’s will daily. My entire outlook on life changed.

I realized that my life is not about me, but about me advancing the kingdom. What I had planned fit the world and what God has planned for me, fits the kingdom. I recognize my authority and accept my humility. Grace is greater than all sin. When he exposed my “stuff”, he covered me in grace.

I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. There is stuff that I cannot see that I am getting ready for. The prophets are speaking it into the atmosphere. I am just a vessel, and I try to be a walking manifestation of the invisible God. I truly believe God has given me a national platform as a stepping stone to have influence in the lives of nations.

Please understand. I am not claiming to be holier than thou, nor am I claiming to know it all.   In fact, all of my newfound knowledge and understanding was taught to me by my spiritual father, Bishop Eddie L. Long (Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church). I am just taking what I learned, applying it to my life, and sharing it with you. My prayer is that you can become just as excited as I am to experience the unconditional love of God.

Never lose sight of the fact that God is in control of your life. You must believe that God can deliver you. You need to put fear and doubt out of the way and believe in God. Faith works whenever there is faithfulness and obedience. Walking in obedience is difficult but necessary. Faith always requires some action and is understood to be boundless and timeless. Get rid of the fear and doubt by receiving the love of Jesus Christ.

Giving Back

Luke 12:48 (NKJ) says “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”

I’ve always known it was important to give back. I was the beneficiary of kindness when I was younger, and once I had the opportunity to impact the lives of others, it was a no-brainer. My husband and I are both very active in the community. We even get the boys involved. Each of us has our own non-profit organizations. Eric’s is Shoot 4 the Moon and mine is the DeShawn Snow Foundation. We understand fully that we are blessed to be a blessing. We strive to be rich in a way that is pleasing to God and we hope to bless generations. This is another reason I know that if we continue to be obedient, He will continue to bless us — He knows our hearts.

The great thing about giving back is that I ultimately end up helping myself more than I do the people I am providing the service to. It is almost as though I am healing my soul – especially with the young girls I help with my foundation. If you ever find yourself feeling emotionally low, I challenge each of you to volunteer at your local hospital, shelter, nursing home, etc. This is a great way of getting outside of your own pain for a while, and it encourages someone else at the same time.

Another way to give back is through your tithes and offering. Everything we own belongs to God. We are stewards of all that God entrusts us with. His trust includes money, our gifts and abilities, our minds and intellect, our bodies, and how we use our time.

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all.

Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NKJV)

We honor God with our tenth and maintain our covenant by obediently giving to God by faith. We are saying, “I trust in You; I believe in You; You are the Most High God, the possessor of heaven and earth.”

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this” says the Lord of hosts. (Malachi 3:10a)

Tithe is ten percent of all your income (i.e. if your gross salary is $500 per week, your tithe would be $50 per week). This is “tithing from the top”, which is the “gross income—not net.” God expects us to be cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:6-15; Philippians 4:19). He wants us to give out of our relationship with Him. He has a special joy when we trust Him to supply our need.

It’s all about the Law of the Harvest. What you give out is what you will receive in return. You need to sow what you want to reap the most; place a demand on your seed (better health, increase in bank account, promotion on job). If you don’t like where you are, sow where you want to go. Don’t ever sow what you don’t want. Your seed must take root and develop a root system. Get rid of the roots of bitterness so that they do not come up and choke you. Also, sow privately and you will get rewarded openly.

There is a seed time and there is a harvest time. Galatians 6:7-9 (NKJ) says” Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)

Offering is an amount above the tithe that you give. Typically there are three: regular seed offerings, covenant partners, and love offerings.

  1. Seed offerings are used to take care of the needs of the church.
  2.  Covenant offerings are totally dedicated for eliminating the debt. (Exodus 35:21)
  3. The love offering is an offering we give to the man of God (Senior Pastor) that is above our tithe and regular offering.

This offering is also a seed that is planted in the pastor’s life so that he will be able to take care of and provide for his personal needs and those of the family. It is one aspect of giving honor when honor is due. (Romans 13:7; 1 Timothy 5:17; 1 Corinthians 9:9-14) Some pastors receive this in lieu of a salary.

First fruit is an offering that goes to the Priest (Senior Pastor). We give a first fruit when we receive an increase or the first fruit of the promise of God. First fruit giving causes a blessing to rest on your business affairs. (Proverbs 3:9; Ezekiel 44:30)

I have had that close relationship with God (keyword:had), as of lately, I have been having a hard time gaining back what I so desire to have with Him. Don't get me wrong, I am under a powerful man of God but sometimes I feel as if what I want with God is unreachable.  I need to feel the river of life flowing through my veins again.

I can't lie as daring as I am, I get scared sometimes. God uses me all the time to bless others as well as to give a Word. I withdraw sometimes because of my current situation and guilt. I am becoming dependent upon a man and I don't know how to stop this cycle.  I have no one to talk to that has been there and done that, someone who can give me their testimony. I just know a lot of married women whom have never had to experience this.

So what can I do to bring myself back to life?

First you need to ask for forgiveness from God and then yourself. This situation that you are going through is a mind over matter and your being distracted by someone. You have to get back balance where God is first priorioty and then the flesh for man.

My suggestion to you is to get back into the Word and begin to ask her to refresh and pour out his spirit like never before. In this season we have to consecreate ourselves and be prepared to handle any set backs that is going to cause us to lose our focus from God. You have fallen down now tell the adversary it won't have again because I'm going all the way in this season no set back to make me feel only and put God aside.

The way that i refresh my spirit is first I pray to God and ask Him to forgive me of my sins and renew in me a clean heart and also renew my mind. Often times, we need to do this on a daily basis because of everyday life.

It is not easy, especially when we are dealing with so many things.  Ask God to you show you the good in the situation you are in, enjoy the trip, look for the lesson.  You will be surprised by how much you have grown.  Pray and find out if God would have you fast.  When I am going thru and I need a break thru, I get a scripture and a song, right now I am reading Ps 119 the whole chapter or division,  my song  I am Thristy.   Many blessings to you.

Hello, Well, first off you said you "had" a close relationship with God and you desire to have it back. I would say go back and re-examine that time. Do you remember how you got there? I'm sure there was a lot of praying and devotion involved. But, go back-track your steps. Figure out how you got there and more importantly how you strayed so that you wont do it again. Then, you said that you sometimes feel that what you want with God is unreachable. Well, my sister, if you intend on reaching this area by your self then yes, it is impossible. But, if you ask God and know that God will take you anywhere that your heart desires especially if it is with Him, then you know that it is definitely possible!!! Do not withdraw when God tries to use you. You must first repent for your sins. Once you have done that and you still feel guilt then know it is 100% from satan. God will not condem you. But, he will convict you if you continue in your sin. Dont let satan prevent you from doing God's will! This is very dangerous! I'm not sure exactly what you mean by you being dependent on a man. My first question is, is he your husband? You can be dependent in many ways, financially, emotionally, spiritually...the list could go on. What you first must realize is that God wants you to be dependent on no man! He wants you to depend sole on HIM. I told my husband when we first married and he was very unstable financially that I don't depend on him to be my provider. My God has been and will always be my provider. I know that God can and will work through my husband to provide for us, but He is my ultimate provider. There was a time for 6 months that neither of us had a job, we had 1 car and I was in school full time. We NEVER went hungry, had a roof over our head, always had gas, and never suffered! God truely carried us! I'm not sure if your dependence is financial or not, but this is just an example of how to depend completely on God and let Him see you through! He wants all the glory! Believe me, with our situation, no one else but Him could even come close to receiving the glory!!! Be blessed!

I refresh my spirit every morning when I acknowlege his blood, death, burial and rescurrection 1 Corn 15:1-4. If you keep in memory what Christ has done for you in your heart he refreshes your spirit everyday as long as you keep in memory not in your mind but in your heart. If you believe what he has done for you on calvary read 1 Corn 15:1-4 three times and day and believe it in your heart and I tell you your spirit will be refresh everytime you ackowlege him.

First and for most do you believe in what Christ has done for you on Calvary that is the question that you need to ask yourself. Next if you believe then all you have to do is just ackowledge what he has done for you on Calvary not in your mind but in your heart. Now you may ask how do I go about acknowleding Christ well if you believe that he shed his Blood, Death, Burial and recurrection for you then that is all that you need to acknowlege in your heart and let that Holy Spirit do the rest.

Listen I tell that the Holy Spirit really open my eyes to the truth when I started to read the Grace Message which the Holy Spirit give this to Paul to share with the believers and the unbelievers I then has to acknowledge his Blood, Death, Burial and Recurrection in my heart then he started to share different things to me spiritually about his word. If you believe this then read 1 Corn 15:1-4 three times a day and ask that Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the truth and tell him that you want more of his truth not what man want to teach you in that build that man call Chruch.

First and for most I just want to say that once you have accepted Christ in your life that he will never leave you are put you down. You may have done somethings in your flesh but that is ok because he new that we was not able to stop our flesh ourselves that why he set his Holy Spirit. When you Acknowledge his Blood, Death, Burial and Rescurrection over your life that is the best way to refresh your spirit in Christ because right now we are acknowledging his Holy Spirit and if we keep in memory in our heart of what he has done on Calvary for us that is the best refresh to our spirit that you need.

It is easy when you allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in your life all he want us to do is believe in what he has done on Calvary for us. If you believe and accept what he has done on Calvary then Acknowledge his Blood, Death, Burial and Rescurrection over your life and in your heart. Read 1 Cor. 15:1-4.

Our Spirits are refreshed when we place our faith in Christ Jesus. He died on the cross so we could be delivered from the bondage of the world, released from the hands of the devils, and set free from the demands of this world. We died with Jesus and were resurrected with Him. This resurrected life we now through in Christ Jesus and when we believe we are daily refreshed in Him..

I too had lost my way. It wasn't until a situation in the last few months, that threatened my sanity, that I knew that God was the only one who could restore me. When I had done all that I could do, I came to the realization that I could not handle this alone. I asked for forgiveness and asked God to take the wheel. I began studying the Word and Praying like I had never done before! It really is an indescribalble feeling when you allow the Lord into your life! With the situation that I have been going through, I KNOW that it is nothing but God that has sustained me and my family!!! Each and everytime that I think about how a bill will be paid or how I will accomplish this or that, He comes through! We are all human, all of flesh, and we will make mistakes. But, our God is a forgiving God, a loving God, and most of all a merciful God!!! Sometimes it takes situations to renew our faith in him. Though the situation that I am going through is terrible, I THANK GOD for me going through it. I had lost my way and HE had to get my attention and guess what, He did!!! Never give up on God, because he never gives up on you!!!!! God bless!
